    Gun Safe Upgrade

Thinking of upgrading my safe to a slightly larger model as it’s bloody cramped in the current one. What’s everyone’s thoughts on going to a 6mm door/wall safe? Currently have just got a cheapie which I’d imagine would be made short work of with a cordless grinder. 3mm door,2 mm sides.

6mm can still be cut, but you’d need a fair bit more time. I think I’d relocate into the garage so it can be bolted into a concrete floor as well. Obviously anyone with enough time is going to still take it but I guess that’s where the cameras come in.

    Any thoughts/ideas appreciated.

    Cheers

It'd always go for 6+mm but it depends partly on what value of guns you have stored in it. 6mm would DEF slow them down.

i think your garage has to be attached to the house ? or are you allowed to mount your safe into a external/studio/office ?

I've passed inspection with the safe in a separate garage, so no problem there. I'd love a discrete in-floor safe, you can't steel what you can't find.

Probably already aware but garages can be prone to larger temperature fluctuations due to less insulation which can create issues with condensation and rust if not mitagated

Yes I’ve seen his sales pop up on Facebook market place. I’ll have to take a look.

Yea you’re right, I’d probably put a small dehumidifier in there.

Just remember what it weighs won't stop you opening it when some thug has your family cornered - it's only good when you aren't home! This is more a reference to spending a bucket load of coin on a safe where you and your loved ones are the weakest link, I reckon it's all good if you can get the safe cheap enough and a second hand x-bank unit is probably ideal. I would be reluctant to pop for one of the brand new commercial imports I've seen at over $20K though.
