Guns Stolen From Unattended Vehicle in Matamata

Cut and pasted from a facebook post emailed to me:

    https://www.facebook.com/taupoclayta...location=group

    Taupo Clay Target Club
    21 hrs ·
A serious situation at Matamata Gun Club today. While we were all in prize giving someone entered the club grounds and stole guns and ammunition from a vehicle. No one saw these brazen thieves. Or maybe someone did but didn’t realize what was happening. No one knows every vehicle entering and leaving club grounds.
This is a reminder for all Taupo Clay Target Club members that it’s your responsibility to keep your firearm and ammunition stored appropriately at the club. We have advised members before and put a sign up sometime ago to keep your vehicle locked at all times.

Someone called Douglas put this helpful, encouraging comment on the facebook page concerned:
Douglas McHardy: why were they left unattended in a vehicle in the first place?
part 19 (2) (c) of the Arms regulations 1992 is quite specific on the subject
    (c) ensuring that no firearm in the holder’s possession is left in a vehicle that is unattended.
    http://www.legislation.govt.nz/.../l...DLM169122.html...
    etc. etc.

Letter of law, yes, but others think a certain person was retarded because he brought a rifle with him to a toilet precisely to avoid leaving it unattended in his vehicle.

Anyway, I don't think NZP would consider the vehicles concerned unattended in the spirit of the law.

It is amazing how many people where I live leave their cars unlocked with wallets cell phones laptops and other valuables inside
just about every day there is one or more people posting on the town FB page that they have had stuff taken from their cars
they also complain about scumbags walking into their homes and nicking stuff none of them take security seriously
My car has the alarm on all the time I am not in it, If you don't get into the habit of locking your car when you leave it
you may not do it when there are guns in it.

I think the issue for a lot of people is he either didn't put it in his gun bag and put it on his shoulder or think ahead to have a gun bag around. It was an A Cat H&K SL8 from what I understand.

An SL8?? Definitely don't take an SL8 to the toilet!

Agree with @shooternz about people who don't lock their houses and cars as a matter of good habit and routine. Pain is coming.
