    Hearing protection

When do you lot wear hearing protection?

I seldom use it when I'm shooting targets with my 22, but with anything else I use it.
If I'm sitting in a mai mai or lying in wait of something with a centre fire I'll wear it.

But jump shooting a pond with the shotty, stalking goats/deer, or shooting the 22 or 17hmr I don't ever wear it.

When do you lot wear it? Like heck I'd ever wear it stalking game, but some folks (American forum members) seem to do so.

And when you get old like me you'd wished you had worn it everywhere, reactive plugs the way to go cause you can hear everything except the bang. Look after your EARS, your EYES and your FEET!

Its a bit hard to pull the trigger when you have your fingers in your ears, not too mention it just looks plain silly

So even when you need your hearing the most you use it?
Do the reactive ear plugs really not block anything but the bang?

I used to use the cheap Howard lights when hunting with a braked rifle, now I have some MSAs so will have to use them.

When I'm shooting steel/rocks etc or load developing at the range I always wear plugs & grade 5 muffs.

Always get a laugh watching videos or in magazines of guys shooting or pretending to with no plugs in........plonkers...

Long range target shooting but not hunting.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

all duck hunting and range/target shooting - not any other rifle hunting - thats what suppressors are for
Being over gunned is under rated.

    Interesting thread !

I wear molded ear plugs when .22 target shooting (both indoor and outdoor shooting CCI standards), none when rabbits with the .22 semi suppressed shooting CCI subs, Howard Leight ear muffs for pistol and also for shotgun clay shooting and finally the ear plugs & ear muffs together when using centrefire at Riverhead (mainly because of the overhead roof amplifying a lot of the bang from other centrefires). Plus always carry a spare set of ear muffs in my range bag and spare generic cheap ear plugs.

If you lose your hearing, you won't get it back. And when I'm old and grey I want to be able to hear my grandkids laughing

I wear earmuffs at the range and game bird hunting. Don't use anything when hunting with rimfire or centerfire as all rifles are suppressed, ... unless someone is walking with me with something unsuppressed.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Wear it. Tinnitus sux balls big time. fucks with sleep, concentration and the ability to hear some frequencies. sonic defenders are cheap and work well.

I went shooting with the 17hmr today. I was lying in wait for some varmints to show their heads, got a rabbit and tried to get another, whilst lying and waiting I had no problem wearing ear plugs.
But when I went walking, ear plugs seemed to majorly mess up mu situational awareness. Sure using a chainsaw or a loud tool it works fine as you are doing that one job. But walking through trees, over fences, and over rough ground, it just felt wrong.
