I can't find anything either but the source I heard it from is quite sure if happened.

Nope. Its not a rumor. It appears to be being kept very quiet. Why??? Normally the media would be all over something like this:

Apparently: Early hours Fri morning (1-2am), bunch of pissheads go for a look over the edge of the river bank (Horomanga), spy a 'deer' through the thermal scope and snot another night time hunter (who had left his mate in their 4WD to go look over the edge too). Driver of the 4WD hears the shot and goes to see what is what, sees a bunch of head torches coming down the other bank yipp and yahooing saying they shot a deer...... high powered round has gutted and killed this guy outright.

Very tragic. Should be jail time dished out all round with this flagrant breeching of multiple rules and laws.

    Tragic, unnecessary and entirely preventable.

From memory over the past 30 years every 'hunter shoots hunter' has led the evening news...

Has the 4th estate become so immune to shootings over the past 6 years that they don't count any more?

Nope. Gang shootings also lead the news these days.

Maybe it has been suggested to the media that they dont make an issue out of gun crimes. I mean, sadly its an every day event these days

I've always wondered how you can positively and conclusively id a target with a thermal..
