Looks like another hunter lost his life this year. Sorry to hear it and while it doesn't really make a difference, hope it isn't one of the guys on here

"Died suddenly at around 2am."
Says it all unfortunately.
Let the hunter rest in peice, the truth will come out sometime.
It is never a nice thing to learn this sort of news. Rest in peace fellow hunter.
Ah shit, that's no good at all
Reading between the lines since he was unlikely to be hunting at that hour So I think it might have been "natural" causes. Of course only speculation but thrown in with the "coroner helping with enquires" I would say an accidental shooting is less likely. Waiting for all the facts to be sure.
RIP :(
Headline says "killed" impying not of natural causes...2am could be spotlighting but also could be fall or injury....and guessing causes like that is as much as a punt as it is believing a headline like that to start with.... 5 hours later headline has not been edited so the potential for "accidental miscommunication of the truth" is possible...
Either way , thoughts go to the family of the person, never good news regardless of mechanisim....
Could have been a gang shooting too.
Doesn't sound good:
Quote:
Daughter Briar Stobie, of Melbourne, told the Herald she would be travelling to New Zealand on Thursday.
On social media, she said her father had been “tragically taken in a hunting accident”.
report this am ;
"46yrold facing charges of manslaughter ,illegal hunting ,illegal possession of a firearm".the deceased is aged 72years .
the antis and their media pets will be positively salivating to make capital out of this .forget about any decency&sensitvity toward the families of those involved.
Edited: Kotuku beat me to it, can't find the delete button.
So by definition a criminal with a firearm committing a crime with said firearm resulting in a fatality....albeit unintentional,
A more accurate headline would be "Fatality as Poacher accidentally shoots older man" then wait for the uproar when it is pointed out that poaching isn't criminal here....
And you are correct, there will be no thoughts given by media towards the family....and just wait until someone says a register would have stopped this....(we know it wouldnt but thats never stopped the media before)
yeah looks like it is the worst case scenario :(
Some dip shit being a dip shit
Fuk we are going there this weekend
Good to see appropriate charges laid. No one should have to face a f..Kwit with firearm “hunting” in the bush at 2am, or any time after dark.
Sad in the extreme
RIP.
Infuriating isnt it -the antics of an unlicensed ill prepared specimen of humanity resulting in death of another is used to tar and feather responsible FALOS,whilst being totally insensitive to others concerns . Cahill should know better than to run off at the mouth but hey thats modern social media for you!
Well if you cant get attention by being clever or smart........
I’d love to see a school programme introduced to give everyone a bit of firearm knowledge but man the Karens would tangle some g strings
One of the local schools was intending to have an air rifle event on one of the school camps. Funnily enough, that didn't last. Kids were highly peeved about that not going ahead...
Our local does that gibo, every December the senior room goes on a deer hunt in the Ruahines we haven't failed yet.
Not always easy with kids in tow, they have to carry the whole deer out, then we give them a butchery lesson.
We go to a mohaka camp mid year where the kids shoot clays with 20 guage and 410 and targets with 22s last year every kid had a go.
I dont no of any other schools doing that!
I'll pm ya some pics

I went on a town school camp last year, over the week they had two groups of 35 kids plus female teacher aids and parents.
3 of us run the slug guns and everybody had a go including adults.
This students leading up to this had been taught the seven basic rules and very well behaved
it can be done my grand daughter in Auckland is in girl guides their last camp they had slug guns she loved it - but then her great great granfather was a sniper in Gallipoli and France so its in the DNA
Love to see it
Taking a farmers stock is theft or rustling but not poaching. And illegally hunting wild game is illegal hunting and not poaching as they already belong to "the public" and that applies whether it is wild animals on public land or private.....
My understanding is that Poaching is not possible here in NZ from a legal standpoint not because it is allowed, but because of the ownership or lack thereof of the various animals taken.
What I was getting at was the headline should have read Illegal hunting.
Poaching definition.
[QUOTE].
illegally hunt or catch (game or fish) on land that is not one's own or in contravention of official protection/QUOTE]
Poaching is a fair term to describe any of the relevant illegal actions. Illegal possession, discharge or trespass with a firearm for the purpose of hunting. You need permission of the landowner whether it's private or public.
Not having a hunting permit on public land is poaching.
Not getting permission from a private landowner is poaching.
yes I know what you mean a deer coming from Public land onto a cockys property is not legally his- as a feral animal it is property of the crown - it can be shot by anyone with permission of the cocky - and is then theirs - thats under the Wild Animal Control Act - but we are splitting hairs - to the Cocky Police and a Judge the term they will use is poaching since that is in common usage - the last thing the judge will say is leave your firearm and firearm license at the door on your way out ya poacher - to shoot an animal on DOC land without a permit is not poaching as such it is illegal hunting yes i.e no permit to carry a firearm and that is what the permit is for really
Public land its not a firearms permit. It's a hunting permit. You need one for any type of hunting. Rifle, bow, Pigs with dogs.
