That will stop people with no licence buying them:roll
"We are not convinced everyone buying guns on Trademe is entitled to do so" is not the same as "We have actual evidence of wrongdoing".
Yea I'm sure if you wanted to obtain a firearm illegally it wouldn't be that hard. No different from obtaining drugs. At least with TM their is some sort of record.
How long before they make buying and selling firearms like they do with car ownership. Oh that's right they cant because they have no idea who's got what.
O'Connor's an idiot. The U/C just wants plod to be armed full time. Criminals need only look in the nearest dunny for free hand guns. I don't even know why plod is issued with M4's as 223 is not at all suited to built up area's. As for what the senile old syphilitic prick is saying now you should try doing a typo on your licence number when you even ask a question. Makes me wonder just what info trademe is storing.
Does he want them back in Trade and Exchange and associated outlets. Thought T/M would be the easiest to control, or would it be better to have the firearm retail outlets controlling or buying and selling. Tell me where you CAN'T find any actual evidence of wrongdoing in any business or Department including the Police.
Yeah same happened to me.
no problems on TM so far, so afar as illegal guns went me and a friend went into a bar after shooting bunnies. (guns left at farmers house) and we were both wearing camo swandris. we were both offered guns from a dock at lyttleton.
if you want illegal guns they are there but as usual the police/press just pick on the lawful
I transposed two digits in mine once, got an email asking for proof of FAL. Sent a photo of FAL, and explained the mistake. All good after that.

Why don't they publicize Joe Greens submission?
Not the bits about them fucking up then?
I wonder how they propose we should sell things?
It's almost like they want to go back to untraceable offline private sales

So they haven't learnt from canada
8000 are traded annually, @ 250000 licenced people in nz only buying 1 its about 3percent......
If tm have no way of verifying a number why have you folks been sent emails to the contrary?
I had previously entered my correct FAL number, so when I entered it differently, it raised a flag with the system. Not sure if or how they can detect it if you fake it right from the get-go. Perhaps there IS a flaw that needs sorting out. If a non-FAL person does that and wins an auction, they still need to show a FAL to the seller in person or jump through the police mail order hoop.
TradeMe use an algorithm for FAL numbers, it has parameters of what the numbers and letters should be and checks that it fits. It isn't THE Police database of numbers. Def not TM's fault if some shithead decides to sell a firearms without checking the buyer has a valid license.
Also TradeMe have an acknowledged problem that although no-one under 18 is allowed to use the site, but it's pretty much unenforceable if kids want to break those terms and conditions.
If I recall correctly, the police association mentions trade ne as an example, but in all wants all online sales banned.
How about they provide a logical, truthful and reasoned argument first?
Or just hit everything with the ban stick?
Are you listening mr oconnor?
I have a better idea: Ban Gweg Oconnor
As we all very well know, it's not about doing stuff for a reason to do with the topic, but to justify your existence and your paycheck. Same goes for politicians, effectively Mr O'Connor is just that, and very soon to be by title no doubt.
They have.

So they did. Anyway, so far I've read about lots of different ways to clamp down on licensed gun owners, but nothing really at all about stopping criminals getting guns. If burglary is the number 1 way criminals get firearms, registering guns, banning guns, randomly inspecting gun license holders, won't stop guns getting stolen and pointed at police officers.
If burglary is the no one way, and I suspect it is, then it would be interesting to know how many of those burglarys are deliberately targeting the gun v just coming across them during a burglary.
If a lot are just coming across them then increasing the a cat security standards could help the issue

I aggree but all the scarey black guns that they are so scared of are already in good E cat safes.
