Just get a really long telephoto lens and mount a camera on it and show them it is for holding things steady (Dont tell them its for taking pics of their wife through the bathroom window as that seems to get them a bit pissy......)

I saw on in the 90s that looked like a hunting rifle but had a camera instead of an action and the trigger operated the camera to take pictures of what you were "aiming at"

In this day and age, it could be good for target practise in town where you cannot shoot... but I cannot find anything to show what it was. It even appeared on a "crime" TV episode once as the user had been shot in self defence when the person who was doing "evil deeds" thought he was being aimed at ....
