    Inappropriate sentencing

The fact that Nash referred to a totally inadequate and inappropriate sentence seems to have been overlooked here.

What do you think is going to happen? Our prisons have what something like 8000 beds, and are full ... and Nash has 7000 gang members on charges - where are they going to put them.

The point is he used his position as a minister to exert pressure on a public servant. That's not on. It just shows what a bunch of twats they are, don't bother reading or follow the cabinet manual

Can't believe im saying this but Nash is on the right track.

What a b.s sentence as an FAL holder I wish the courts took firearm offending far more seriously. I don't want to be tarnished with the same brush as people who have firearms without a license etc

It's just because the copy paste link has shortened it incorrectly. The article is still there... Nothing dodgy going on; https://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-ba...AITEFFEDKF2UI/

Nope, he's still the minister of several other portfolios, only lost the Police one.

Politics aside, the elephant in the room is why the Police hadn't already launched an appeal against the sentence when Nash phoned Coster.

A true democracy's 'rule of law' rests on the triumvirate of Parliament, Police and Judiciary. And the need for the three to never collude or discuss operational matters.

The past half dozen years has thrown this inviolable fact to the wind...and weakened our democracy by doing so.

He has been a first class plonker by breaking the rules.

But not the first, and certainly not the last.

Let us not forget members of the Judiciary doing the exact same thing in a court case against the presiding judge. Nash got lost once he was not following a former PM around like a puppy dog. Nash has long suffered from the Peter Principle like the vast majority of politicians. Maybe the lack of hair dye caused a rush of blood to the head. Worst of all he had a conversation with someone who is inspiring as wet paper.

Nash brought up the phone call himself, it wasn’t recorded. He was boasting to Mike Hosking how tough he was on crime.
