    Load-Action-Instant

    Where does this terminology come from ?

    It's used on the Safe Firearms Handling Page of the NZ Police web site.

    It looks like the way I think, getting away from the SMLE based idea of :
    "Don't rely on a safety catch" (and of course the half open bolt).
    Now Safety Catches are OK. (depending on your rifle)

    However, it does make any rifle with rounds in the mag "loaded" which would be a change in mindset for us. I's always thought of it as "unloaded".

    It's NZDF terminology used on their ranges;

    Load- magazine inserted into rifle

    Action- Rifle cocked apply safe

    Instant- Safety off ready to fire

    Works well for us, not quite fit for purpose in a civilian sense.

    What he said ^^^.

    The RCO shouts this on the range. Usually followed by . . "With your target in front go on". Or "Watch and shoot as your target appears", depending on the serial.

    hmmm treat every firearm as loaded........so unless its a break open...broken open or a bolt action with bolt removed.... its potentially loaded

    reading title all I could think of was Barlow...lights camera action....
    the way mawzer308 described it makes perfect sense for a semi....not so much for other actions.

    Ya should have seen the looks I got when I hollered thse out when doing CRO on a deerstalkers range instead of the civilian commands they use (which I have to read off the prompt sheet every time!). Funny!

    As well as NZDF, it's also terminology used in NZSRA matches.
