    Moving overseas

    Asking for similar experiences:

A relative emailed the FSA today to notify that they will be moving overseas soon and wanted to know the formal process. The FSA person sent them a Notification of Change of Address form. My relative asked in reply if that form still applies if they are overseas and shouldnt they be surrendering my license instead?

Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience that could chime in? Thanks!

Permanent move or will they be back in the future?

If they surrender their licence, make sure they get written confirmation that it was surrendered, not revoked.
I know of a case where a licence was surrendered and paper work came back saying it was revoked.
Big difference if circumstances change and they want to reapply in the future.

You don't have to surrender your license if you move overseas.
Change of address is probably the correct form.

Renewal from overseas, as I understand it, can be difficult.

Quite true that you don't HAVE TO surrender your licence.
What will happen though, if you are still absent NZ, is that come renewal time your licence will be revoked. If you then choose to return to NZ - interesting times ahead.
My employment took me overseas for many years and knowing that return to NZ would be a distant horizon, I voluntarily surrendered my licence. The licensing officer in the district I was leaving confirmed to me, in writing, the surrender.
When I eventually returned to NZ the licence application could not have been easier and I was re-issued with a licence that bore the same number as the one that was surrendered many years previously.
    As the saying goes, YMMV.

If you move overseas and have advised the FSA then if your still overseas when it’s renewal time you can then get in contact with the FSA and advise them your still overseas.

It’s tricky to renew while out of the country but you can then surrender or just let it expire and provide a reason such as being out of the country residing overseas.

When you come back into the country you simply reapply

As pointed out above “surrender” is different to “revocation” however under the above circumstances you won’t face “revocation” as that applies to individuals with a build up of bad behaviour questioning their status as fit and proper.

Correct. I've had an enormous battle with them to get my uncles fa licence back. He lives overseas but visits regularly. The only thing tht said him really was they couldn't produce a renewal letter and no e mails ever sent to him. It was a bloody nightmare.

Remember these…… buggered off overseas for a couple of years only to find out I had “ surrendered “ it when I returned… Unbeknown to me,I had hadn’t done that at all,I asked for the paperwork, which they couldn’t provide…. And basically told to fuck off… it’s a done deal…. Argued it until the cows came home ….. and they (NZ police) refused to engage

Had to resit and redo everything over again with a lot of messing around due to the fact I had “surrendered “ it previously…. Absolutely spewing over that as it took 3 years to get it back….

    Now… F$&k em!!!! I go on “holidays”

My advice make sure if your leaving, get a permanent address on file… have someone who you trust to fwd u correspondence with a phone #… current email address and reply to all correspondence etc etc….. our system is archaic and moronic!!!!

Yup .. if it sounds like I’m butt-hurt over this issue..I was…. Gold digging and over zealous bureaucracy has literally f$&ked us over!!!

@A330driver it sounds to me as though you are bearing a grudge. In that case, “bloody good on ya mate!”. In my family, a grudge is a lifetime long responsibility to carry the grievance and to vent your spleen and seek retribution at every opportunity.
