Court appearance for supplying guns used in double slaying

Court appearance for supplying guns used in double slaying - NZ Herald

A man alleged to have supplied firearms to Quinn Patterson, who shot and killed a Northland rental agent and her daughter, has made a brief court appearance.

Michael John Hayes appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Monday morning for a case review hearing.

However, the Crown asked for a two-week adjournment, which was granted by Judge Sinclair.

Hayes, 61, previously pleaded not guilty to the charges and will return to court next month.

This morning he stood in the dock wearing a black suit and tie.

Hayes is charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a military-style semi-automatic weapon (MSSA), three counts of supplying an MSSA to an unlicensed person, and three counts of supplying firearms to an unlicensed person.

The firearms alleged supplied included a Mossburg 12-gauge shotgun, Gevarm .22 calibre rifle, AK-47 replica semi-automatic rifle, and Saiga 12-gauge shotgun, 7.62 calibre rifle with various rounds and magazines.

Property manager Wendy Campbell and her daughter, Natanya, were shot and killed when they went to visit Patterson at a Mount Tiger Rd address on July 26. Contractor Jeff Pipe was also wounded.

Patterson's badly burned remains were recovered from the charred wreck of his rented home, though it has not yet been ruled how he died.
