Unfortunately Stumpy they keep voting for Greg O'Connor.

"Greg is a Senior Sergeant in Police, seconded full time to the Association National Office. Elected to the position in 1995, Greg is the longest serving President in the Association's history. Following the Police Association's 2013 Annual Conference, Greg was reappointed for a further term through to 2016."

The front line Police don't necessarily agree with his nonsense but it is a dangerous precedent when the Police actively campaign to change laws. That is the essence of a Police State.

Now every time something happens we have this to look forward to.

On the other hand i don't blame them in the slightest for shooting him. I would have done the same. It's the blaming the firearms/firearm law part that doesn't get any respect.

I am very pro police , and believe our officers should be armed at all times , I am also pro armed forces and believe they should be deployed more around the world to fight as well as rebuild ,...hindsight always has the luxury of time ,its always easy to sit back and say , shoulda coulda woulda .... but until you are faced with the end of a barrel in your work capacity you will never know the thinking or decision making that goes into the shot ..... I would have loved to join the police instead of the fire service almost 20 years ago , the dog handlers on tv , look like they have the best fun ....ps , I also want concealed carry ...no I don't want to live in the states

I certianly do not think our fellow NZers should be extensively deployed around the world getting shot at, injured and killed, it should be a rare occurrence. I dont see the need for concealed carry, sure ppl such as yourself may well be 100% safe 100% of the time but frankly many ppl would not be safe, either from carelessness eg gun in handbag or "boiling blood" eg car accident.

as with anything I certainly respect an individuals opinion ... if you join the military in a ground forces position , you would expect that you will get to use your training in a real world scenario ..digging holes in waiouru and watching kiamanawa horses is hardly riveting , we send out SAS out to fight , lets get the other forces a chance as well , as for concealed carry , the rules around who would be strict and followed up , ... didn't say it was ever going to happen , was just a personal view that I have .

You could say that about firearms in general.
