I am "nobody" to try to explain what have happened, I read the posts where is said "they are trained for it", but, is a shot in a fatal area of the body really necessary? I understand that he could shoot anywhere/everywhere at any giving time but them, do the police have a specialised "armed offence squad" when it is needed or only when is possible to call for backup from Auckland?
Would a "SWAT" kind of team be a bit more appropriate to deal with?(I know, time was in the cops favour).

Check this video link, it is old but I think it was a great final.

My thoughts and condolences to the family of the victim, to the officer who had the mis pleasure and his family and friends my honest support.

Firearms are lethal force. Nothing less. There is not shoot to wound or shoot to kill, there is only shoot to neutralize the threat. If you shoot somebody when killing them isn't necessary, it's excessive use of force.
