Back in uppers, everything is still taped off and cops still hanging around. Seems a little unnecessary

I am "nobody" to try to explain what have happened, I read the posts where is said "they are trained for it", but, is a shot in a fatal area of the body really necessary? I understand that he could shoot anywhere/everywhere at any giving time but them, do the police have a specialised "armed offence squad" when it is needed or only when is possible to call for backup from Auckland?
Would a "SWAT" kind of team be a bit more appropriate to deal with?(I know, time was in the cops favour).
Check this video link, it is old but I think it was a great final.

My thoughts and condolences to the family of the victim, to the officer who had the mis pleasure and his family and friends my honest support.

Cops (like firefighters) are expected/required, when shit hits the fan, to go into the thick of it when people are running away and have to deal with the situation.
It is not a knee jerk reaction. They are given the skills through extensive training which is constantly reassessed and up skilled. That together with the tools they are trained to use are required to take control of the situation and save lives.
Unfortunately cops don't get to put their training into practice and are thrown in the deep end with no warning when it happens
I am very pro police , and believe our officers should be armed at all times , I am also pro armed forces and believe they should be deployed more around the world to fight as well as rebuild ,...hindsight always has the luxury of time ,its always easy to sit back and say , shoulda coulda woulda .... but until you are faced with the end of a barrel in your work capacity you will never know the thinking or decision making that goes into the shot ..... I would have loved to join the police instead of the fire service almost 20 years ago , the dog handlers on tv , look like they have the best fun ....ps , I also want concealed carry ...no I don't want to live in the states

Seen the article on the news tonight . I thought it was interesting how many guns where stolen a year 900 . That's insane , they didn't say how many they recover ? , but put that over 10 - 20 years that's unbelievable . I did Google the 900 guns and it's right according to article on the web
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
just had a crack at the resident fucktards on the TM message boards .This clown JCMP-resident anticop knowall-pity he wasnt shot onto a hot tin fence and left to dry in the sun.
youre right-blaming firearms laws etc etc is just bloody simplistic and oh so easy for lazyarsed polis and academics.,theres a hell of a lot more to it than that.
its high time the judiciary stood up and did their bit by coming down bloody hard on the traders&users of illegal firearms, and up what some high paid bloody lawyer says.
no shaggin about -any sniff of illegal firearms -wham 3 strike status youre off on a long holiday my son and its whole of sentence no fucking parole. fuck the bill or rights too in this case -you use an illegal firearm in an antisocial manner you forfeit all protections -bit like killin mossies with a shotgun -VERY FUCKING EFFECTIVE makes ya think twice, and hope ya wankin technique is spot on,cause itll be a long time before you ever get to play on her indoors front lawn again, but dont be suprised if one of ya spotty herbert bros isnt soon havin a dabble.
the voter sucking john howard and his firearms laws in aussie -fat lot of fucking good that did .i read somewhere recently theres dealers smuggling all sorts of illicit arms into aussie and selling them on the "dark web"
One factor is (I believe) that property crime isn't taken seriously enough. That's three firearms a day being nicked! Recidivist burglars are a menace and cost the rest of us far too much. Jail is a revolving door, I reckon if we double the sentences, we halve the crime. It's a fucking joke otherwise.
I certianly do not think our fellow NZers should be extensively deployed around the world getting shot at, injured and killed, it should be a rare occurrence. I dont see the need for concealed carry, sure ppl such as yourself may well be 100% safe 100% of the time but frankly many ppl would not be safe, either from carelessness eg gun in handbag or "boiling blood" eg car accident.
"I do not wish to be a pawn or canon fodder on the whims of MY Government"
I don't have the answers, surprisingly nor to the Yanks. Their gun laws are a lot more liberal than ours and their sentencing way harsher.
"ars longa, vita brevis"
as with anything I certainly respect an individuals opinion ... if you join the military in a ground forces position , you would expect that you will get to use your training in a real world scenario ..digging holes in waiouru and watching kiamanawa horses is hardly riveting , we send out SAS out to fight , lets get the other forces a chance as well , as for concealed carry , the rules around who would be strict and followed up , ... didn't say it was ever going to happen , was just a personal view that I have .

like the boys in blue us psychiatric nurses see humans at their bloody ugliest frequently and like the cops we are trained to contain restrain and defuse, which is contrary to the natural reaction of fright flight
!yes training does help, but getting into a small room with 6'6"of crazed spitting human screaming in your face as they attempt to douse you in various body fluids or a hot meal or modify your features aint no bloody fun but it must be done.
It makes me laugh some of the comments i hear in hindsight from people who werent there but read reports or rely on anecdotes.
ya should do this or do that i did this to ........-total and utter horseshit, anyone dealing in these situations knows they can go from relative controlled calm to a screaming heap of shite in milliseconds-more so if a party is stressed etcetc.
in short we'll never know what exactly was going through this blokes mind before during or alas after he suffered the wound which proved fatal.nor the minute millisecond decisions taken by a policeman who was left with no option but to fire.
the press coverage is a mishmash of unidentified witnesses most of whom secretly loved their 5mins in the limelight.
All this "in hindsight" palava makes me wonder why humans arent born with eyes in their arsecheeks.
Soft cock academics so beloved of little breathless leftwing MSM reporters, leave me colder than a honeymooners breakfast
.to Prof Kevin Clements i say -"bud until you know the facts of the case your opinion is worth jackshit so be a wise owl and button it."
BTW his employer otago varsity has had a couple of murderers on its staff too the sth african psychiatrist(?murdered wife with insulin)and who can forget wee clayton "chucky" weatherston!(stabbed sophie elliot to death)
Most teeth arm soldiers hated practice every day and no game on Saturday.
When the first gulf war started we had guys showing up to work packed ready to deploy without even call up.
Some are career orientated and the military is a stop gap.
Most are there because they love being a soldier.
