OH Sh!t moment.

Yesterday i brought a suppressor for my .308. Was told by the guys in the shop it was a 30cal bore. Got home threaded it on and got thing ready for a trip to the range today to see what sort of difference it would make. Get to the range set things up , chamber the first round. Im a bit paranoid with my rifles , so i decide to double check the bore on the suppressor by poking a round down the end(I unloaded the rifle first). Did not fit. The bore was 6mm. Hate to think what would have happened if i had pulled the trigger. Got that aweful sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach at the time.

The guys at the shop were extremely apologetic. After sorting things out as i was leaving they were writing the bore sizes on the boxes with a vivid. So hopefully wont happen to someone else.

Just a cautionary tale about always checking new gear before you use it.

Now im sure some will say "well you should of checked before leaving the house" yes i should have and lesson learned , thankfully not the hard way.

But not everyone would have checked to find it was 6mm.The guys behind the counter as far as I'm concerned were bloody slack.
That can should have been shoved where the sun don't shine,bugger that.

So the rule should be the first shot on fitting suppressor will be armour piercing! Just incase! Lucky man!

iv seen a brand new one get fired about 30 metres down range, and the poor guy rubbing the crap out of his eyes.

how so Rushy ?

Putting a 6mm brake on a 30 cal would be just as bad if not worse than a suppressor.

I'll give you that VC, I was a bit enthusiastic about dissing suppressors and never thought to think through the main issue of the hole being to small for the projectile when shooting my mouth off. Another case of Rushy opening mouth, inserting foot and chewing vigorously.

Whilst it is a bit dodgy seeing they sold it as one thing, good to see they were implementing a system to stop it happening again!

A caliper at the front desk to double check before it leaving the store wouldn't go amiss either.

It would be very simple to get a length of nylon rod turned down in stepped increments as a 'quick check' gauge.

Pretty slack alright....could have ended up messy. They need to be sure about wot they are selling to customers. Hope they gave u plenty of free stuff.

lucky man. would of loved to take whats left of it after it had a round through it and stand at the counter with a totally straight face asking for a refund as it didn't seem to work as well as I thought it would.
