    Options for security camera

What type of cameras are people using to secure their premises, residence or safes etc? I’m thinking of a wifi camera that records audio and visual via a cloud or NAS system, with a battery backup in case of power failure.

A separate infra-red/motion detection sensor is also an additional redundancy. I can click into my video feed whilst not at home to scan the surroundings. Ie if the mailman is in my home or the daughter’s boyfriend has made my recliner his. Actually the last sentence was an improv, not actually part of my question.

    Thanks

If you have fast internet then go wifi so you can view live when you are not home etc. If your internet is dial up speed then this will cause issues, hard wired is good if you have a system with battery backup if someone turns off your power. any recording of activity is better than none at all though.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

You still have to run a power cable for the Wifi camera (unless you want to use a battery charged via solar panels.)
Use network camera with Power over Ethernet Supply, Hide the DVR somewhere else in the house.
I don't bother with trying to upload to Cloud as clogs my connection and slows everything right down.

    ..
Exactly what my son did and it's great. He has four cams- one at the front gate and three round the house. Backed up to the Cloud so there's no risk even if someone was prepared to find and dig out the recorder. He also has a Ring unit at the front gate in case he wants to talk to someone

i was installing them weekly as well as alarm systems. you can get some good deals on ali but of course allot of what is described is junk and no back up. also some manufacturers have "backdoors" into the dvr and camera so its possible for them to view the camera. not good if the cameras are inside the house !

I have the Arlo system running batteries for outside and powered inside. Alerts go to the app on the phone and via email. Works well and can zoom in to see scumbags up close.

Using a few reolink argus 2 cameras with the reolink solar panels.
Tick all of the boxes, and no cables to run to the sheds.

The Argus 2 use a Sony nightshot sensor. As long as you have some ambient light (streetlights, moon), they're amazing in colour at night. The IR nightvision on them is really good too. They use microsd cards on the cameras, and have cloud storage too, which is very handy.

I have multiple of these cameras around the house with solar panels, and they're fantastic (and much cheaper - about half the price -than Arlos). The only thing they don't have is the arlo ability to lock out particular areas in the sensor to avoid traffic triggering signals etc. but you can just position the cameras to avoid giving too many false positive recording triggers.

Time to raise this old thread from the dead. Was looking at getting security cameras for outside my house (well, its a rental, so have to ask landlord first) as there have been a few break ins and car tyres being slashed in my area. The Reolink ones with solar panels are top of my list right now, fits in with my tight budget being less than 200 dollars including solar panel and SD card from PBtech as they are having a flash sale. The 50 dollar solar panel while expensive by itself is probably cheaper than hiring someone to do the wiring for a direct source of electricity.

Thanks for all the input! Yes quite a bit to think through. I prefer the ability to check the footage via the internet and be stored on a harddrive as a backup.

The camtec link doesn’t look right? Arlo is most definitely not a cheap option.

Arlo pro is not cheap as you say - but you get what you pay for, I got mine on amazon - so cheaper.
Good system, easy to set up and monitor from your fone anywhere in the world that has coverage, i'm no guru and i found it easy to do and maintain/modify the system.
Has strong wifi base station signal that has range out to 50-60m for outside cameras and through walls/doors etc.
Easy to shift around if you want to cause it not hardwired and cameras are bty powered , they last a reasonable time(although the cold can mess with them).
Good night shot/veiw on them to and you can add in more cameras easily if you want too
Downside obviously if yr power/wifi goes down they dont work, but still gets the big thumbs up from me

Yeah I’ve searched for them on Amazon. But the wireless ones can only do visual. And I would like the option of audio. But still a valid option.
