I know the POLICE have been taking a bit of a hammering lately from a lot of us .myself include ,but just reading stuff where 3 have been charged with manslaughter,right here in jacintas paradise!
that is a massive boot in the blue nut sack by any measure.
from the sounds of it Police HQ are wanting their pound of flesh too.

It appears to me that they are the victims of a modern PC world. I am not saying that they should not face the charges, I am more just saying that forty years ago they very likely would not have.

Well if one of Kotuku's patients dies because he for instance decided to play poker all night instead of doing his rounds, or farm labourer dies because the boss made them use a tractor that he knew was unsafe, they would have the book thrown at them... No difference really.

The moment police detain someone, they become responsible for that person's wellbeing.

Yes but why? Drunk arrested for assault found dead when checked on is the story as I read it. For equivalency in your hypothetical the farm hand would have been pissed and would have culpability for his own actions and Kotuku’s patient would have had to have had something smuggled in.

Allegedly drunk arrested on suspicion of assault. Last time I checked the courts are supposed to determine punishment, not the cops at the lockup.

What the article does not go into is if he was potentially assaulted by those cops, or if they locked him up and then went out for a night on the town...

For them to have been charged I suspect it involved some pretty gross negligence...

I certainly think those who take the role of policy enforcers should be accountable (as men, not hiding behind the rank), and doubt any of us know enough facts of this case to make an informed decision one way or the other.

That last paragraph sums it all up - particularly ‘.Not know enough facts of the case’ bit.

Summed up here. The evidence must be very strong for them to bring charges fowards.

Often they leave as much out of public domain before a court case. Waiting to see what happens.

when I heard it today,the skeptic in me thought.....vote grabbing by current lot trying to ride the wave that is going on in states at the moment.......which brings up an interesting point....IF the fella who had neck knelt on was a "Joe Dirt" white trash no hoper, would there have even been a whimper of protest??????I think not.

not sure we can make any comment until the facts are established in court. But I do feel for all involved on all sides. A pretty ugly situation.

exfucking xcactly and i was nearly killed along with a cop in greymouth when a mad cow wanted to kill herself and I stopped her .Ive seen more fucking suicides and horrible deaths than a lot of people have had hot feeds and I still have nightmares at times wondering if i could have done more to prevent it .Believe me having the Health&Disability commissioner grabbing your nut sack is no fun -yes he wanted me over the latest suicide i was involved in -I politely told em to fuck off they had my nursing notes and written statement.
alas people in NZ are totally ignorant of the number of medical people whove become casualties due to the reslt at all cost HDCpricks -two colleagues of mine suicided due to this annd i never forgive of forget .

NO NO NO NO Icant make it a fucking clearer than that.Most people have no bloody idea just how creative(in the fucking most diabolical sense)people can get if deprived of freedom -even under the closest scrutiny.do you people have any idea at all what its like dealing with people who are pissed or high on a mixture of who knows fuckingwhat(jacindas pee in shredded horse turds wrapped in a dock leaf maybe).I could devote a volume of encyclopaedia brittanica to the protocols we must follow in dealing with this and even then the shit can hit the fan..Im renowned as mr dont fuck round. what i can say is if needs be well have your arse in our equivalent of a cell -Illbe parked outside gazing at you through a lexan door window(unbreakable )My observations will be written down every 10minutes ,and every 2hrs your room will be entered to ascertain that you are still alive ,you have access to fluids

sorry rushy smuggling something in -been there seen that had at least 4 people arrested and more than a few trespassed-no access policy is enforced apart from medical ,spiritual and legal persons.
When the person is removed we then sit down with them and review the depisode -feedback helps to refine a very very fraught situation.
fuck me sounds a lot eh =it is but it minimises the chances of the big kahuna stopping by and smartarsed civil servants trying to tell us how to do our job .
Ive always made bloody sure my documentation is as close to 100%perfect as possible -medical notes being Class A docs in a court of law.yep thats another thing writing 2nd opinions to have a person committed to a treatment unit.had to justify myself before more than a few judges in my day ,and i one case because i wasnt satisfied with what i wrote Irequested of the judge and court that It be deleted form the record of proceedings. judge was very complimentary in his ruling and that person later thanked me.
so mondern mental health aint shortland fucking street -its more trying to sortout the best deal for some poor bugger whilst fending off myriads of knowalls.
that police situation -ive my suspicions but at this stage Im not going to be mug enough to put em in print .

Guys ,its not a good day today -1st anniversary of my FIL death and Im feeling it .Hence when i typed the above i was to put it mildly just a little pissed off-hence the ratshit diction and grammar.
If i offend you I apologise ,but I dont attempt to sanitise anything -I work at the ugly end of life often with people who are in this situation through no fault of their own ,but are still regarded with derision and scorn by those who should know better.
Sometimes death is the outcome and i fucking hate that!
