I get where your coming from of course, but even with all the nonsense rules surrounding firearms ownership, NZ has far fewer hoops to jump through than other countries. Gun ownership is very rare in the UK and extremely expensive, making shooting a rich mans sport.
It may not feel like it but here in NZ we are very very lucky to have access to firearms at an affordable rate.
The Gun laws here was one reason I moved to NZ and not elsewhere (sorry about that).
I for one wouldn't want to rock the boat too much, any further legislation would probably make things worse not better (in my opinion).
'Rocking the boat' is the only thing that has saved from much harsher laws! We have succeeded (via the Courts, Select Committees, etc) where more concilliatry methods have failed miserably. It is imperative that we collectively continue to stand up for our rights, as the anti's are always looking for ways to undermine those rights! I use the word 'rights' advisedly because our right to own arms is enshrined in law - a fact that many are unaware of (or choose to ignore).
Man you guys Crack me Up .
Your discussing problems that Australian shooters would give their Left Nut to have .
I'm not down playing some of your legitimate concerns , but before you get to excited you should stand back and thank your lucky stars .
If you want to use the word " Dumb " and " Firearm Legislation " in the same sentence , then you had better include the word Australia .
You all need to revisit Fred Dag

The Green party for one want semi-autos gone. Organisations like Amnesty International want all guns gone and lobby our Govn for that. COLFO is the only organisation I know of standing up for us so yes be active and also support them.
There are other groups other than colfo. Colfo do important work at un level on our behalf but on a local nz level they have done less than some would like in the last few unsettled years. They have had some new blood join them that could change this.
Ssanz is out there-not sure what they are doing
Nsa, worked/working hard but lost the pr battle with most shooters so very short on funds and therefore time. Maybe they should get gundoc to speak on there behalf in the future.
There is allso a group of club/industry folk who police talk with when they are trying to work out what to do but there advice seems to be mostly ignored and the meeting used by police to tick the "community consultation" box.
There are probably other groups, and there is always talk of more.
You need to live in the UK, absolutely insane rules, everyone thinking of ways around the law, semi auto centre fires banned, but lever realise centre Fire is ok, just as quick, pistols have to be 24 inches over all so we have 12 inch barrels and a coat hanger attached to the rear of the grip. But I can have a glock 19 or any other centre fire pistol for humane destruction when deer hunting.
