Any weapon (A or E class alike) WHICH CAN BE FIRED IN ITS FOLDED STATE will be measured in its shortest state to determine if it is a pistol (pistol legally defined as less than 762mm or 30").

This is really the police applying the law, not ultra vires exceeding of authority, never mind their earlier unhelpful confusion-spreading.

Expecting police to measure guns in any different way is over-optimistic, like measuring one's private member from tip right back to anus.
