I'm sure they would have preferred him to go bananas in a concrete box to contain all the stray stuff, but he happened to choose there as the spot for it

What an idiot. Sympathy to the cops who had to return fire.

I saw this one first and was interested to note that the picture was clearer and the "pops quieter ....Did stuff alter the sound?

So finally the cops shoot to wound and people still bitch? They did what was needed.

OK, here I go! Many years ago I Was in AOS and the general rule was to shoot to prevent further action from the offender. Second point is that invariably the public will rush to noise and in shooting situations there is obviously real danger. I suggest we think carefully about the unenviable position law enforcers can sometimes be in; I have nearly sh*t myself on more than one occasion. In a similar post yonks ago I suggested people read ‘Bad Blood’ the story of Stan Graham who was shot by Police near Hokitika in the old days. The young cop who shot him was pilloried by both his mates and the public.

(my brain works so fast my typing cant keep up)

The Police are trained to shoot centre mass they don't train them to shoot arms and legs that is too hard to pull off in a real shooting
situation, if they do hit low body, legs, or arms they have missed their target,
I can hit the A zone on an IPSC target all day at 35 metres with my .357 mag revolver but nobody is shooting at me
and I practise very week,
Most pistol shooters would shoot more rounds in a month than a cop does in their entire career,
The police do the best they can with what they have, I would not want to do what they do.

what he said.... a few years ago a scumbag escaped from custody down wellington way he was armed and had a hostage anyways cop shot him in the leg and he subsequently lost it.
i was told at the time by a cop that it was most likely his sidearm discharged before he had a bead on body mass (still bringing it up to aim) apparently the pistols they were using had a very touchy trigger and it was common even at the range to have premature discharge add to that the stress of the situation ......
i dont have a problem with police being armed but they do need more time at the range so they are more proficient in the use of their firearms...
as for the guy who heard the gunshots and took his daughter out to have a look............then moaned to the media about how they had to duck behind a hedge, .........idiot , he put his daughter in danger no-one else did

I agree

I have no issue with the police having access to firearms when they need them. But I would like to see far more training in how to get the best out them when the situation calls for it. Practise, practise, practise. Once it is muscle memory, then they can concentrate on stopping the situation and not have to think about what is happening in their hands. It would be a far better use of Police funding than most of Cahills wish lists....

Yip - a cop told me a couple of years ago how much range time they do to keep their frontline status for firearms. From memory it was one day a year where they put 2 mags through a Glock and 2 mags through an AR, but if they score too low they get more for another round. He thought they need more training too.
