Police Report just came in.

"Male accidently shot in Gisborne - Gisborne - Eastern"
At 5:45pm tonight, Ambulance were advised that a 22 year old male had been
accidently shot in a rural area Waihirere, just out of Gisborne. The victim
was transported to Gisborne Hospital by his companions where he is in a
critcal condition. The male victim is from Germany and currently here on
holiday. Interpol have been asked to make contact with his family in
Germany.

It appears that the group were out shooting goats when the shooting ocurred
with a high powered rifle. It is too early to provide any further details
about the shooting as the people involved are yet to be fully interviewed.
No details will be released at this stage on the details of the person who
fired the weapon as they are still to be confirmed.

Police are not looking for anyone else and the firearm has been recovered by
police.

Gisborne CIB have been called out and will be leading the investigation.

I suppose 'high powered rifle' means it wasn't an air rifle or 22rf but being the media it could be a 22. I remember when a high powered rifle meant an elephant gun or big game rifle.

I suppose the use of the phrase 'high powered rifle' is similar to it being explained that someone was hit by a bus rather than a car :)

"Firearms incident - Titahi Bay, Porirua, Wellington - National Alerts"

Armed Police have attended an incident in Titahi Bay, Porirua, this afternoon in which a male was seen in two separate locations carrying a handgun. A first sighting was received just prior to 2pm where the male was reported to be sitting at the main entrance to Titahi Bay beach holding what was believed to be a handgun. Police were quickly on scene however he had already moved from the area and could not be located. About 20 minutes later a further call was received advising that the same person had entered a local pub and a handgun had again been seen. Police cordoned the immediate area and began evacuating patrons from the premises. The suspect male came out of his own accord shortly after and was taken into custody without incident. It has been confirmed that the firearm he had was a BB gun. Prior to leaving the pub the male had allegedly fired a couple of pellets inside however there is no indication that he had threatened or presented the gun at anyone at any stage. This, however, is a prime example of an unnecessary circumstance where someone with a fake but highly authentic looking gun has created a situation which has required an armed Police response. Had this person not cooperated with Police instructions but instead presented that gun in any manner towards them or other persons the response may have been drastically different, and the outcome potentially tragic.

Brings back to mind a story from UK a few years ago. Matey was walking around and mouthing off about having a gun in his bag. He even went into the pub and put the bag on the table telling everyone he had a gun.
Police arrive, matey refuses to show contents of bag...BANG. Turned out he had a chair leg in the bag. Quite a :wtfsmilie:few years on and his family are still claiming the cops stuffed up.

Lucky boy, could easily have ended up with a 223 headache, and an AOS member's life would have been in the shitter for the next couple of years...

For the second day in a row armed police in the Wellington region have had to respond to reports of a person carrying a handgun in a residential area. Just prior to 5pm this evening an emergency call was received from a member of public reporting a male walking along a street in Naenae, Lower Hutt, pointing a pistol at people. He had initially pointed the gun at a member of public on the street and shortly after was seen to point it again, this time at a passing vehicle. An armed response was on scene quickly and within minutes of arrival the offender was located and taken into custody. What is described as an authentic looking BB gun was located on the offender at the same time. This incident comes just a day after police dealt with a male in the Titahi Bay area who was also carrying a BB gun in a residential area and was arrested after taking it into a local pub. In both instances a complete lack of common sense and awareness of their actions has been exhibited by the respective offenders which have resulted in an unnecessary deployment of armed police resources. As with yesterdays incident, had the offender not complied immediately and appropriately to the directions of armed police officers the outcome could once again have turned into an avoidable tragedy of his own making.
