Police union squealing about being ignored

According to police union boss Cahill on RNZ He said the government had already changed laws regulating gun clubs, "and they did that without a select committee hearing."

Is this true, or is Cahill lying again? I know they have begun consultation on gun club regulations but nothing has changed as far as I'm aware.

Heard Cahill on the Mike Hoskings show, trying to put the boot into Nicole McKee about her potential relaxation of restrictions on semi auto rifles, I thought initially Cahill was some older woman by the sound of his voice!

Mr Cahill is upset because his lobby group wasn't directly included in the current consultation.

Perhaps Mr Cahill should reflect on his public statements, specifically the accuracy and truthfulness of those statements.
While he and his organisation distort the truth, cherry pick the statistics and just simply lie they don't deserve any special treatment.

Just a hypocrite. Helped make the consultation process as one sided as he could to suit his agenda and then cries foul when he thinks it's happening to him.
Actually no need to consult him as they know what he wants and got quite a bit of it. So why ask him again.
And wicked tricksy false as usual as it's not all about bloody semiautos if at all

Most of the public think when they hear police association that he is the spokesman for police, rather than the union mouthpiece. I think it's a misconception that suits PNHQ most of the time

And the more strident he becomes the more it souds like a personal compaign to push whatever regulations he thinks we should have, and that his views should carry the day.
No, he is not the Police spokesman but his messaging is just driving the wegde between the hunting / shooting public and the Police deeper and wider than it should ever be. And personally attacking Nicole McKee, a duly elected people's representative, as he has done in the article is simply crossing the line. Somebody should be having a word in his ear.

He will get the same say as any other lobby group. No more special treatment for him, which I suspect is what he's throwing a wobbly about.
Calling for the resignation of a elected MP for doing precisely what she campaigned on is totally out of line. He needs to get back in his box.

I liked Colfos response to him...

"As a fact Police were consulted. Cahill should remember he is a union rep and not the Police Commissioner. Given the discontent following his performance during pay negotiations perhaps he should be focusing on serving the financial interests of his members while he still holds the role.
"I understand that Mr Cahill is feeling left out of the process, but he should be reassured by the fact that he, and all New Zealanders, will have an opportunity to make submissions as the four phases of firearm law reform progress through the legislative process.
"Mr Cahill's claims that we have been undertaking 'restricted consultation' and the Police Association has been 'deliberately excluded' demonstrate a paranoia ill-befitting of the organisation he represents."
