According to wiki, Armalite started to make them in 59 for the military but sold the design to Colt who started producing semi auto version to civies in 1963.

there were AR18's back then too.

Hey tussock I have been under a rock the last 5 years, I heard Colonel Gaddafi was planning to establish a gold backed currency with Libya's gold reserves to rival the french franc as alternative use currency in africa. I wonder how that is going.

I think we call all answer that one tararua, not well for Colonel Gaddafi, the french franc hasn't done too well either.
