Thread: Putting a handle on a safe door

So long story short, the door on my safe is particularly heavy and has sagged all the hinges just enough to the point that the door is quite hard to open. Usually you open it holding the key however im not that keen to pull on the door via a key as that won't work out very well one day. So my question is can I put somewhat of a handle on the door to pull on legally? Or drill a couple holes for the bolts? Obviously want to keep it legal and don't want to put holes in it if I then have to take the handle off later. It's a baronet 6mm safe if that gives anyone and idea of the opening system they have.

Bend some re-bar and weld it to the door?

Just make sure the door is open with bolts out before welding ,drilling etc , goes for all safes in case relockers etc in door .

How many other parcels will be stuck to it when it arrives? Gotta be a pain in the A for couriers etc!

The guy who did my last inspection said safe door handles are usually designed to be weak enough so they break off if someone tries to use them to force the safe.

Urethane a handle to it.

@cheeseclip in general terms, the easiest way to separate/detach would be to slide it off the edge of the door, then you only have to pull it off the tiny contact surface of the door edge. I would place the magnet near one of the dges of the door, to minimise how far you had to slide it/ minimise paint damage,

Urethane has gotta be the cheapest.
They glue car bodies together with the stuff....

My safe had that problem, after some investigation found out that the floor and wall that it was attached to weren't perfectly square or level. Consequently tightening down the bolts to the floor after anchoring it to the wall pulled it ever so slightly outa square and door rubbed on one corner. A washer under the offending corner sorted the problem and it was back square again.

if you have ever worked with shipping containers you will know this all too well...a tiny 1" wedge poked under one corner can be difference between doors opening, and closing again when full,or having to force shut with forklift..... or jamming fork under corner and lifting while trying to shut.....
