remington 700 receiver old quality control issue

    Hi All
I recently picked up a LA 700 with the intention of doing a build on it. Took the factory barrel off to find the receiver lugs are screwed. something slipped at the factory and trying to find any others.
What it is is the lugs have a step in them so the bolt is only bearing on the outer part of them. about 1/4 of full contact

The action is 20+ years old. serial number is 6598455.
If you have an older Remington with a similar date serial it might pay to check the lugs

Yeah, as per the thread on FishnHunt, definitely get hold of Remington.
20 years or not, this is a major quality control issue.

    Now where is Sidney?

Thats pretty nasty, wouldnt want a barrel obstruction(well you never would but) or some other overpressure situation with that.

Barrel that came off was defiantly original with all markings. The threads were also still fill of he gunk from the factory

The Oval look is because it's cutting into the feed ramp

The cut doesn't look like the early pegboard automated machines produce when they go bad - it has the look of one's that have been done manually.
I doubt that anybody would carry on a rimfire convention on a long action... More like a Monday morning or Friday late afternoon at the factory with minimal quality control.the guy at the factory probably knew it was like that but fitted the barrel anyway.the gun passed the proof test loads and went on the shelves. I still see from time to time some shocking barrels that should have never left the factory, even in gun produced in the last five years.they are safe to shoot but can't see them being accurate because they are so bent .
