Seven guns stolen in two Te Anau burglaries

Some idiot didn't get the message about not leaving guns in unattended vehicles:

Seven stolen guns have ended up in the hands of criminals, police say.

Te Anau police Sergeant Tod Hollebon said between midnight and 5am on Sunday a ute parked at a property on Melland Place was broken into.

A shotgun and high powered rifle were taken from the vehicle, as well as other items.

The same weekend, between 4.30pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday , a home on Dale Rd was broken into.

Five firearms were taken from a locked firearms safe as well as other items.

"We are extremely concerned about these firearms getting into the hands of criminals and are investigating both burglaries thoroughly," he said.

Police had carried out forensic examinations on the ute and at the Dale Rd property, he said.

Hollebon said the burglaries were an important reminder that all firearms owners should regularly check the security of their properties and vehicles and ensure firearms were securely stored and not kept in vehicles.

If you have any information which could assist or may have seen anything suspicious in these areas over the weekend, please ring Te Anau Police on 03 249 7600.

You can also give information anonymously by ringing Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Scum sadly they are everywhere , was parked in the countdown carpark last week boys having a shop up before heading to the island & a group of young kids walked past my truck didn't see me sitting in it , little fucks were looking in the windows of parked cars in front saw 2 girls aged around 12-14 spotting something in a car and slyley lifting door handles I got the window down & hurled some abuse there way they just giggled & wandered off into the shop ,thinking about it latter I should have informed the store just to cause them some grief nothing is safe .

there will always be assholes....... the public now sees two lots of guns stolen, where there would have been only the one incident if the car guy had not been lazy and taken his rifle inside.

that is one way we can do better, but for the genetically deficient.... what can we do? they will always steal and rape and do other bad stuff. sterilisation is the only way forward.

Some of them breed very early, so sterilisation clearly not practical, unless you sterilise their offspring too under the same court order. No, let's not go there.

Would be a good idea, docking rings are pretty cost effective.

Heard on the radio detectives had made a major break through. Turns out the stolen firearms may be with criminals.

You could let's take your rifle with you and get arrested then have illegal searches on your property like r Lincoln .

that would be very good news if the cops have caught the shithead thieves & recovered guns. Hate to say it but sounds like some one was in the know about where to look & when !
