I've just called Timaru police station to book myself an my son on a firearms course only to be told "there are no courses booked for the foreseeable future as all the volunteers have quit" so what the f*** are we supposed to do now?

I did wonder if this was going to happen when they announced the changes.
Wonder if it will become an online test with online reading materials you're supposed to study before hand....
also FSS - Firearm Safety Specialists might be spendy though. Could organise a group of you though.
@stug thats just ridiculous, i thought the government was murmuring about more restrictions and generally making things harder. now you can do everything through the internet and anyone can do it! guess you would still need a safe inspection at some point.
was wondering what was going to happen with all the volunteers having left, partner was thinking about getting her licence, guess not now!
Fairlie Lions club have their annual 2-day course/test (with plenty of hands-on experience) coming up in a month or two I believe. Not sure if it's open to non-locals too, but could be well worth checking out..

i just renewed my licence that process was long enough. the vetting officer said gisborne could end up having to go to hawkesbay to do a firearms course in the furture. only going to end up with more unlicence firearm holders
@Antz Ashburton Police still conducting theirs through our local MSC guys. My son will be booked in next month.
