So what do we do now???

I've just called Timaru police station to book myself an my son on a firearms course only to be told "there are no courses booked for the foreseeable future as all the volunteers have quit" so what the f*** are we supposed to do now?

    Cheers Antz

What about another station, CHCH or similar?
I did wonder if this was going to happen when they announced the changes.

Wonder if it will become an online test with online reading materials you're supposed to study before hand....

@stug thats just ridiculous, i thought the government was murmuring about more restrictions and generally making things harder. now you can do everything through the internet and anyone can do it! guess you would still need a safe inspection at some point.

was wondering what was going to happen with all the volunteers having left, partner was thinking about getting her licence, guess not now!

Fairlie Lions club have their annual 2-day course/test (with plenty of hands-on experience) coming up in a month or two I believe. Not sure if it's open to non-locals too, but could be well worth checking out..

Would attending such a course be `official` enough to obtain a FAL though?

open poly used to do (30 years back) "firearms safety and appreciation" course. and to be honest it was pretty damn good. as well as firearm safety it went into reloading etc. at the end if you passed you got the mountain safety council certificate.

Yes, it's all official and supported by the local cop. Young fella down the road did it last year - one day theory, one day hands-on with various pistols/rifles/shotguns etc, then finishes with sitting the license test.

i just renewed my licence that process was long enough. the vetting officer said gisborne could end up having to go to hawkesbay to do a firearms course in the furture. only going to end up with more unlicence firearm holders
