would you leave razor sharp knife sitting on park bench while you went off for a picnic elsewhere????
    same deal really

What a load of bollocks , what did the local cop do apart from waving his dcik around for a few to see and to impress his bosses . If he "truly" believed in what he was doing , would he not point out to the hut owners ( DOC and Trusts) of the need to provide for the proper storage facilities in the first instant .
And as for the "Privilege " , really grow up and stand on your two feet and stop begging Mummy for a bag of lollies . It does not even pass the sniff test!.

Last year was the first time I have been to a hut with a gun rack, but no way would my rifle fit in the slots. SAV 99 with stock pack and 2.5x10x45 scope.
Other wise when in huts with trampers i tend to just put my rifle on my bunk against the wall and cover it with my sleeping bag. No point in drawing attention to yourself, they all knew we were hunters.

Lots of ex FS huts used to have racks (Caples etc) but when DOC took over and encouraged trampers to use them the gun racks got taken out - the start of Wokeness??

I think what we can all take from this is that we have new regulations and the authorities are going to expect us to take them more seriously than has been traditional in this country.

Like it or not we are going to have to create new behaviours, or not, at our own risk.

I would suggest that car parks at public boat ramps etc will also get checked for compliance come duckshooting opening morning.

a few times over last 10 years the local copper has been out with F&G ...ranger does licence check and copper sees who is pissed in charge of firearm....was well beyond time it was cleaned up,too many were behaving like dickheads
it is one of those logistical things for us...first fella to arrive on island stays put and all gear gets ferried across,at no time is gear left unattended from start to finish,2-3 boat loads its just plain good management to never leave stuff unattended for any longerthan necessary,I may leave a drum of decoys for 15 minutes but wouldnt dream of leaving shottie without someone watching it.

Nothing received here, you'd think with names, addresses and probably a significant percentage of email addresses of licence holders the information would be easy to send out instead of just updating their website or Facebook page.

Yip police are doing checks on the Island at present someone was silly enough to be spotlighting the police were very clear good buy FAL, Im unsure how the police will get on with that example as their only evidence is the hut book

Think they have pushed the new regs into your court to find out, not their duty to inform. Surprised the numbers of hunters I meet who have zero knowledge of any changes, will probably find out the hard way.

A mate of mine has no internet, no email and no tv. Much to be admired.
Wonder how the establishment expects him to be aware of the moving target that is remaining compliant
