Building a 300BLK AR at the moment and I've been pretty keen on the idea of knocking down a few possums with it for a laugh. Just a bit concerned about travel distance of 300BLK subs vs. 22lr subs? Anyone got any experience with this? How about hand loading extra soft rounds purely for the purpose? Obviously I would only be taking shots which had a solid backdrop on a trunk/branch. Thoughts?

Cant see any problems if they are on the ground or what about rabbits etc? Apply Normal firearm saftey and you should be sweet?
Yeah I'll definitely give the bunnies on the ground a bit of a stir up. I was just thinking that with a 220gr or maybe even something heavier with ~9gr of pistol powder the 300blks wouldn't go too far but seems like even then they can still be slung effectively up to 400+ yards, ergo, shooting upwards isn't going to be the best idea haha.
Using the 300 would worry me.
110 vmax makes a mess of them.

lol i bet they do. I *definitely* would't be shooting supersonics though, even on the ground. Not around here at least.
what load powder are you using with the 110 vmax
I use 208gr A max projectiles I found 220 gr too heavy. Good luck shooting out to 400m I have mine zeroed for 75m and at 200m it's dropped like a stone running subs. Still a fun caliber thoughQuote:

if your upper is capable of 1.0MOA which seems to be possible if others using this cal are to believed then i don't see why 200+ yards shots using a rangefinder, balistic app, good dialable scope and good techneque, shouldn't be a problem.
I have shot possums with a 200gn sub and they go through them and just keep on going. Be careful.
You could go a slightly larger calibre if you want:ORLY:as long as it's safe. I love shooting them and rabbits with the 308 and I'm sure if I owned a 50cal I would love it more.

Roberts 151grn hp cast work well through the x39mm yes only with good backstop or in remote areas. watch for the ricochets as something big n heavy going slow has a tendency to bounce. they work great on rabbits n hares.
Fill your boots and enjoy the carnage, as others have said ensure its done in an appropriate area with suitable back stop.
