Time taken to get assigned the "unique ID number" for Firearms safety course

    Hi,

My son has applied for his first firearms licence and is wanting to get it as soon as possible. I wanted him to attend the Firearms Safety Course in early July, but, he advises me that he has not received the unique ID number to book it. I assumed that this would be automatically sent as soon as the payment was made (mid June), but, he says that he has not received any code.
Does anyone know, is this a manual thing that gets sent out after some processing, or, should it have been sent automatically with once payment was made? My understanding was that the referee checks etc were only made after passing the firearms safety course so would have expected to be able to book the safety course immediately.

Don't know for certain if this might have something to do with it BUT; legislation passed near the end of labour greens tenure is due to come into force in NZ 1July. This is Digital I.D. across the board (everybody) and
being promoted as great for instant banking and transactions etc. It will be administered by private international corporations.. The system has run for a few years in Sweden and has opened
up a swathe of cyber crime. I surmise the police will try to use it aiming for fal digital i.d. even though the govt infers it will be non compulsory. Enqyiries I have made to MP's have had nil responses.

I've been going through the new applicant process in the last few months. For me it was 8 days between submitting the application and receiving my unique ID number (around 5 business days).

Thanks for that. Has been a bit longer than that, but will just have to wait I guess.

Ring the FSA and enquire. Thats what they are there for - they are public servants and you are the public.

When son did his fal, they took nearly 2yrs.

They didn't authorize him to go on the MSC until after vetting was done.
I asked if he could do the course prior to that to speed things up.... but no.
