It is possible online to register a rifle in non-factory calibre. I did it with my Tikka T3X barreled in .300 Blaser Mag. I had to obtain phone advice from the Register contact centre on how to do it as the procedure is not obvious or indicated when filling in the online forms to register. Then, when I finished registering my entire battery of firearms there is another section you can go to showing the detailed list of what's registered in your name. That should negate any need to visit the Police for confirmation. When I talked to the Registry contact center personnel all tried very much to be helpful but obviously they were not expertly versed in the registration procedures until I got one young lady who was a real whiz who helped me at lightning speed.
