OK to answer my own question I realise now that it’s the purchase of ammo that is a triggering event after June this year .

For some reason I thought it was June this year .
Can someone clarify this for me please .

    Cheers
That is correct But buying Ammunition from June this year will be a Triggering event. Stock up or Handload.

So what is the deal in a circumstance when firearm is not on the register, someone buys it and puts it on the register. Do we have that ability under the legislation?

That can be done, it allows ilegally owned firearms to become legal & registered.

My mate said he did it, just registered it in his name and didn't have to list any info about the seller.
We're still looking for an old .22 in a deceased estate, apparently he had 1 years ago without a current FAL. This will enable it to become legal again.
