We are possibly going on the road for 4 months and as I'm on the register already I will be phoning them to find out how I go about changing the storage location from house to caravan, both have approved storage so will be interesting to hear what they have to say.
Can't do it yet as nothing is confirmed.
Due to a purchase I had an activating event so had to register everything
As others have said, the user interface is about as intuitive as a wombat's arsehole and I had to ring up for several items they had never heard of before but relatively easy in the end
I still don't trust them as far as I can spit but I obey the law

SECOND: Perhaps you own ten firearms, but are only taking one away with you. Can you legally leave the other nine at home? Admittedly locked up but still in an unattended house. An you do that or do you need to make alternative arrangements.
I just thought of a third scenario; perhaps you AirBnB your house for the four months you are away. Your guest doesn't have a Firearms Licence, but is effectively I possession of your guns. Is that legal.

Would seem to be a different facet of that argument though, that seemed to be more down the track of how much is it going to cost to staff the department who's going to have to handle the requests for data from cameras under the oia rather than data 'security' as firearms owners forced into having their data recorded are thinking of it. To be fair, that is the argument that all the left wing liberal types are not wanting to see or downplaying against their perceived benefits of other aspects of registration but that people on the receiving end of the registration are seeing as a show stopper due to the inevitable breaches.Quote:

What a scary read, most of us saw something like this as a likely eventually though.
Damn, that is exactly what several people have said as being the most likely thing to happen with the way the new system was rolled out. There's actually more than two repositories of the info that makes up the registration systems in NZ, which is worse than what Cam Slater makes out. There are the Dealer's records, the Customs and import/export records, and whatever system the 17 new P endorsements are caught up in as well. Messy duplication which basically seems like ineffective political points scoring rather than a well thought out secure and efficient system. To do it properly would take a hell of a lot longer and cost a hell of a lot more than what's been thrown at it now though.
Cam Slater could tell me that the sky is blue and I'd walk outside to check
