Looks like I'll be folding up a steel box and installing hard points in the vehicle, then get input from the local constabulary. At worst I end up with a secure place to keep my tools!

I expect you won't get it approved by the AO, as AO has no legal discretion where the law is clear.

Only exception I've heard of (on this forum I think) was where the "vehicle" was in fact a house truck in which the FAL holder lived, but there are also cases of an AO declining to approve storage in such a vehicle. Such is the nature of discretion.
