Hi guys,
There seems to be a lot of confusion going around about what requires to be registered, firearms parts etc etc.
See below, hopefully that helps clear things up.

calibre conversion for rifle or shotgun NOT mentioned...awesome that makes life easier. I dont see barrels either.
75/15/10 black powder matters
Please see link for activating circumstances. (Picture above only shows a couple)

okay antique does not need to be registered - I have a side by side 16 gauge hammer gun in 16 gauge no makers name ( possibly a trade gun) cannot be opened ( blame older brother ) so cant get at serial numbers - age likely around 1890 - now is that an antique
It just exemplifies poorly drafted and hasty legislation. Whats new in NZ. Our ex PM is recorded as proposing to write a book about her life. It will have as much intellectual force as the NZ Womans Weekly if that rag is still published.
Thats a bit confusing regarding air guns, springers and the like that aren't classed as specially dangerous. If you have one as a LFO it needs to be treated the same as other firearms apparently in terms of handling and security, yet doesn't need to be registered. It's a bit left hand right hand isn't it!
so a suppressor is ok ....or more specifically if i take a rifle into DPT to get threaded and have suppressor fitted does it trigger the countdown to register all firearms i own?
i know it says when you buy an arms item but i cant see a list of what qualifies as an arms item....... probably keeping it vague on purpose
I have been pondering if a suppressor is a major part or not too
Happy Jack.
@scotty @Happy Jack read the first post. At the bottom it lists what needs to be registered and states what a major arms item is. But no a suppressor does not need to be registered.
Quick question team . At the moment I am looking after my sons two guns while he finishes his house and fits a real safe. Do I register his his guns that are in my possession while he farts around or does he register them even though he hasn’t really got possession of them at this time. ?
Thanks in advance.
If they are in your possession for more than 30 days you need to register them. But as you already have them in your possession you don’t need to register them until they go back to your sons possession, unless you do one of the triggering activities.
From memory Antique= Flintlock / cap and ball / pinfire. If it is a firing replica such as a Pedersoli or it takes a cartridge as inEnfield Snider it is not an Antique by definition. So if you had a Enfield Muskertoon .577 Muzzleloader it would not need to be registered. But if the same Muskertoon had been modified to a Snider then it needs registration.
