As Greg says basically only if its a major parts withe a serial number on, receiver, pistol frame or whatever, only difference being if you bought lesser parts via post so needed mail order form, then that interaction with the authorities is a trigger.

Thanks but Im going to go and pick it up so there will be no mail ordering.
Just a bit confusing when they state "major fire arm parts" without specifying what that means.
    Maybe Im just a simplton.

I have just registered my firearms and I have an interchangeable barrel firearm. I did not have to register the second barrel. I was asked to register the barrel that was in the action when I brought the firearm originally. My second barrel is not considered a major part like others have pointed out. There are no serial numbers on the barrels, only my action. Joel

The Mail Order form for minor parts isn't a trigger event though some Arms Officers do try it on. Gunworks have on their website the lot in black and white from the Firearms Authority.

Im planning on buying a timney trigger for my 308 next weekend , will this be an 'activating event ' and trigger me having to register my guns ?

Im going to ask the shop owner that Im buying it from also , but a heads up would be nice.

No, action is specifically the major part. The bit that is defined as the firearm.
