Your eyes see what your brain expects to see ?

This may seem a strange place for this picture, but once you see the thing you are looking for, maybe it will make sense. To me, it seems somehow connected with hunter safety, in that your eyes see what you are expecting to see in a given situation.

I see something that's not normally in a classroom. First thing I noticed to be fair. Stands out like dogsballs

It is far more complex than your brain seeing what it expects to see.

The eye is only focused in a very small section of the view your brain bulids and also there is the 'blind spot' where the optic nerve enters the rear of the eye. Your brain just 'paints in' the bits that are not clear and/or fills them in from previous scans of that section of the view, This is why people 'see' waht is not there and do not 'see'' stuff that is there but has not been scanned ver recently.

Are you talking about the dog or the guy feeling up the Sheila In the fifth row?

The really unusual thing is that some seem to be paying attention.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

That one got me because I was deliberately trying to block out every thing but the white shirted players.

And the dog was the first thing I saw basically.

Because of the way its worded, If you were asked to count the total no of passes you would be watching the gorilla to see if he got a pass!

I think this is the point; applying all your focus on one thing will distract most people from the big picture. "Can't see the forest through the trees" so to speak.

Hence the original post I think, not expecting to see what's right in front of you because you are expecting(even when it's suggested by others) something else. I didn't believe the end of the video the first time I saw it, and wanted a copy as I always thought I took in what was happening around me. Of course, once you know about it, it's not possible to get caught out again.........at least in this case.

Now apply this same logic to someone so focused on find a stag in the bush.................................. shit can go wrong.
