    Your thoughts ?

Ok, I ummed and arred over posting this, however….
My wife picked up an opened letter next to our letterbox this morning
It was not aggressed to us, indeed the address was 3 bays over from us, some 700 letterboxes away
It was from the police, and advised the recipient that their C endorsement was not going to be renewed
It also detailed a couple of pistols, and the status of their safe.
Now, it’s not a police fault insomuch as the letter was obviously taken from the intended letterbox.
But, it’s provided whoever took it with an opportunity
Should correspondence like this be unbranded ?
Maybe the police letterhead triggered the theft ?
Anyway, I’ll drop it off to the local station on monday.
The recipient is known to me, by association, held public office for a while, but I don’t know him well enough
To knock on his door. Especially as the letter doesn’t contain good news.
    Anyway, flame away…..

this brings some questions to my mind.
Should letters be branded as you asked.
Has he seen the bad news, or is he still unwise of said news.
Should the police check that he has had this info or do they wait a month and go smashing his door down because he is still uninformed of news and still got the pistols.
Why your letter box ? does the person who left it there know you are a FAL holder

So if I understand this correctly, the security of the intended recipient of the letter’s pistols has been jeopardised and the letter states that the intended recipient is no longer going to be able to hold the pistols as his/her C endorsement is not going to be renewed? My question then Is logically “what offer have you made to the intended recipient for the transfer of said pistols onto my B endorsement”?

Me being frivolous aside, the underlying issue you have raised is a very good example of why I am an opponent of the new registry and why so many in our number fear that the security of our families and our firearms will be jeopardised by it.

Should this incident be made public, is it news worthy to show how our (FAL) security is already being put at risk?

The suggestion to contact Nicole is a good one, and something I hadn’t thought off.
I’ll contact her, and she what she thinks.

Someone bought a restricted pistol at the auction today. Took 15 mins to locate on register. Had an incorrect serial number, didn’t match, there was a letter missing
Welcome to the accuracy of the police.

Yep, just fills me with confidence.
Anyway flicked Nicole an email and we’ll see
Being as the break in and theft of data from the old police station out west Auckland wasn’t deemed worthy of APCA investigation, I’ll be interested to see where this goes. Someone putting there hand up and saying we need to change the way we’re operating would be good.
Should these things be hand delivered ?

i was about to say maybe things like this need a phone call and a hand delivered letter, they do it for many other things firearm related.

I am hearing some C-cats are being cancelled if what is being held can be placed onto the Owners B-cat. If so it puts paid to the Pistol NZ - 12 pistols directive as it should. Has anyone else heard/know of this.??
