Has anybody had any experience crimping new ACTIV (the all-plastic type) shotgun hulls?
Purchased a 20 gauge trap gun for a teenager, and it came with all the reloading gear, including a new model MEC Sizemaster press and 500 new ACTIV hulls. The hulls are brand new, and when I crimp them, they don't appear to hold too well. I've tried both 6 and 8 star crimps, to see if that makes a difference, but still not a very flash crimp finish. The press is adjusted perfectly, and some of the used ACTIV hulls that came with the reloading gear crimp great.
I have many years ago reloaded 12 gauge ACTIV hulls, but these were all used hulls, and always gained a perfect crimp finish.
I'm thinking it may just be the new hulls having no memory formed in the plastic.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
