Got a Gun With Screw-in Chokes?

This is the result of poor storage for a gun with screw-in chokes. This was a local authority Animal Control gun that was carried by someone who never cleaned it . The choke had never been removed , and was seized solid in there.

Heat ,cold , freezing , prolonged soaking in penetrant ,brute force - none of these even got it to move .

So - if you have a screw-in choke gun - remove the tubes and lube the threads. Dont screw the tube in super tight - leave it sitting proud of the muzzle in storage , and give the tube a wee twist and turn every now and then to ensure it still moves.

Screw it in snug when you are going shooting , then back it out again.

It was only a cheapy shotgun , but the same goes for any gun - look after the tubes and dont let them get like this .
