A common Belgian cheap double-barrelled hammer gun that was one of several similar makes and models widely sold in NZ prior to WW2. They were made of low-grade steels and very average workmanship, looseness at the breech being a very common problem due to the soft steels. The gun has the common rebounding sidelocks which, when in good condition, will only allow the hammer to contact the firing pins when the trigger is pulled, and also provide protection in the event of a fall or a knock on the hammer. Sadly, the quality was lacking and the safety feature failed more often than not. This led directly to a ban on the importation of such guns in the years following WW2, only recently rescinded and subject to testing of each model before import approval. At auction such guns generally fail to achieve $50 unless in good condition. They are commonly found welded up and used as wall hangers.
