Thread: Hi guys! New around here, question about load choice

Hey guys, I'm Eric. I'm not from New Zealand, I'm from America but my bucket list includes hunting New Zealand. Specifically I want to hunt red stag, tahr and peacocks among other things. What loads do you guys use for shotgunning peacocks? That's a big bird, and if have to imagine you use something pretty substantial. Thanks for the information, it is so interesting to see hunting in another country, I can't wait to come over there and experience it

As soon as you say "American"and "hunt red stag" "game park" comes to mind.

However we realise not all Americans fit the stereo type so if your prepared to put in just a wee bit of effort red deer are the most widely spread in nz and can be hunted under permit for free all year round on most public land.

Roar period varies depending on area and the years conditions but last week march to 3rd week April is the time here.

.22lr or shotgun with whatever ammo is laying around for peacocks.

Never hunted peacock but imagine a shotgun would be the go? I use my fast legs and a sharp knife when dispatching my mums emu's but they are in a paddock so sorry im not much use

Yeah pretty easy, once you get ghem into a corner its a matter of hanging on long enough to make the knife stroke. Like chasing a giant chicken i guess. Meats full of flavour but get the cut wrong and its chewy as. Mince is the ticket.

Just drive a combine harvester into the paddock with the grain head running the dumb shits will just run clean into it and then get spat out the other end from my experiences with them in Aussie but they do tend to try and block up the thresher though.
