Any good? Issues? Mates young fulla wants one!
pretty good work horse
Got one tucked up in the back of the cabinet. Did ok for a bit of bird scaring and casual clay and bunny shooting, barely sees the light of day now.
Only issue I had with mine is the LOP as I am a very short tall person
They are cheap enough new and then you will get a warranty as well I had the 18" pump only reason I sold it I've got fukd shoulders
18in barrel Maverick lives on the quad bike here.
Had a Mossberg 500 barrel fitted, so running a turkey (XX-Full) choke.
Dynamite on hares.
Good workhorse, as others have said.
Great, thanks guy's, info passed on.
Cheers
yip the length of pull sucks for big fella, nothing a decent recoil pad wont fix. we used to put up to 250 rounds per night through one shooting rabbits and the only issue we ever had was some batches of falcon/cheddite shells had a tapered rim rather than a more right angled one and at times the extractor would slip over leaving empty in chamber..... decent shells no issues at all.
I've got one, longer barrelled version, shot a heap of rabbits with it (barrel got pretty hot, I got blisters on my thumb from reloading it kind of thing) used it on ellesmere for ducks, abused it, gave it heaps of work, still goes good and comes along as my backup gun for if the semi has any problems. Not the softest gun to shoot but I've used mine a heap got really familiar with it and when I knocked the front head off didn't bother replacing it because just knew where it was pointing but then, in other words. Yip they pretty good.
Mate only pump I would get would have to slam fire
My brother had a Mossburg pump action shotgun years ago, it had a short barrel with a wide choke. You could see rabbits running through the shot pattern, it was the worst piece of shit I have ever fired. I don't have any idea what the mavericks are like but after firing my brother's piece of shit I would never use another one.
Had one shot it so much I wore the firing pin out, lost it in fire and didn't replace it and I miss it alot
Cheap and never let me down at all, well until the pin wore:thumbsup:
Pretty sure I only cleaned it a handful of times too
Well mate ,I have the pump action and can only agree with 7mm on this one, cheap enough for sure, but why spend the money, when a little more will get you a lot more. For many years Mossbergs, were considered shit investments, introductory guns for the uninitiated, something of a throw away, but they have changed for the better over the years.
The mossberg 500,or the Mossberg Silver reserve (that I just purchased) I believe is a better value for money,if you go down that road. Not expensive, good quality for the bucks, and they both cone with a plethora of chokes, the silver comes with 5.The 28 in barrel here, might be the killer here,as it seems you want a shorter barrel (correct me if I'm mistaken)?Something to think about.
Another fine choice over the mossberg, the Remington 870,mate,these bloody things last forever, with no issues. My boys have them, synthetic stocks, there is not much to say about their durability other than the buggars can take huge amounts of abuse.
as stated a workhorse, dont expect miracles but reliable as hell. same for the winchester defender
