First, go with what the guys have has said above i.e. pattern the shotgun, fit the gun etc etc.
Second, get into skeet shooting at the local clay club and learn the basics of mounting the gun for the shot, foot positioning, keep both eyes open, giving enough lead, shoot, follow through etc etc and practice to build your instinctual shooting.
At the club they'll encourage you to shoot with the gun on your shoulder. I personally don't, my argument being that when I'm out hunting I won't have my gun mounted on my shoulder (upland hunting at least) so I might as replicate real life hunting scenario as much as I could.
Third, Once you get some experience and feel comfortable shooting at the club, then do some sporting clays at different locations as they have awesome target set ups, and its heck of a lot of fun.
Forth, have a spotter that will remind you the obvious mistakes you are not picking up that are habitual to you.
I'm great full of a fellow forum member that took the time to teach me the above, that reminds me its been long overdue and I need to drop him a message.
and finally, sell your pump action and get a double barreled gun. be classy and the upside being you won't be holding up anyone at the club when you gun jams.
Happy shooting!
