    Ported Chokes

    Hi folks.

I'm getting everything together info wise prior to going for Beretta.

I see you can get the optima HP ported chokes which fit the gun I'll get.

What are the pros and cons of ported chokes?

I mean they look cool and scary and I'm assuming they: Increase noise, reduce muzzle jump and potentially reduce felt recoil as their enabling the escaping games to come out quicker.

I did a quick Google but would want to hear from kiwis who have some experience with them?
    Cheers folks

What are you hoping to achieve from using them. Noise will increase. Bit other than that I don't think there is too much benefit over a extended choke. Mate has one in his beretta and tbh we can't tell the diff between them. We both miss and hit ducks all the same.

Standing next to someone with them or a ported barrel in a maimai is an extremely unpleasant experience, similar to being close to a braked rifle. A friend has a set of patternmaster ported chokes that were supposed to shorten the shot string he reckons the only thing he noticed was his wallet became lighter after buying them.

I was just curious if they offered any advantage over say conventional flush chokes or extended chokes etc ?

I know how the pattern masters work and have had one before but I wouldn't be buying one again ironically

Flush chokes won’t protect the muzzle in a knock, extended chokes do

Ported chokes are really hard to clean with plastic wad material building up in the ports

Ported chokes are louder, they do not reduce recoil

Non ported extended (20mm) chokes are all you need

Go improved cylinder and improved modified

    Most people overchoke their guns

You want 60% of your shot slightly above the bullseye at 30 yrds

And 50% of your shot inside a 30cm circle at 30yrds with the imp cyl choke

And 65% of your shot inside a 30cm circle at 40 yrds with the imp mod choke

Send a pm if you need more details

It's the duck sized holes in the pattern that get me

I ported my old single bakail with a black n decker drill and 4mm drill bit...5 holes about 15mm apart in two rows at 10 and 2 oclock....it does SLIGHTLY reduce barrel lift and I m deadly with that gun....many times Ive threatened to do it to another but havent been game to take drill to expensive magazine gun..... so in effect I ported for downward thrust only...and it works. have contemplated doing it to an extended choke...will only be room for one of two holes...hmmmm got me thinking now...

those ported chokes look like they would be an awesome start to a shotgun suppressor

another vote for Mod in extended, the one I used on a m1 20g was like a lazer but im not sure if that was the gun or the choke, as I was just using it temporarily
