Thread: Pump Action Shotgun Sling

Hi all,

I have a 28" 870 with a wooden stock that I'm humming and hahing about putting a sling on.

What's everybodys' opinions on slings? Useful or get in the way?

If you like them, how have you attached yours to the gun?

I'm into a bit of leatherwork so was looking at making one from leather and using off the shelf hardware at this stage.

My h&r pump is pretty much a clone. Sling is awesome.get neoprene one so has some bounce in it. Can fit swivel in/through end cap and screw another forward of heel as normal. Mine has 11oz of leadshot up her butthole to soak up recoil from 3" loads so carting in hands gets tiring fast.

Avoid the ones that have about 20 shell holder loops... the brass cartridge rims are murder on the wooden stock and fore-grip.
Slings are great when you have to lug the shottie a distance with other gear. Take it off when you get to the blind though. Unlike a rifle, a shottie sling isn't useful for using as a brace to shoot more accurately. Most shotties that are meant to be used with a sling come with attachment studs, but you can get magazine caps with a stud or attachments that are fastened to the tube magazine. Butt-stock stud - attaches the same way as on a rifle.
