    super short vs short barrel?

I have a bit of spare money and i'm dead keen on a TAC-12. i can get a 14.5 inch barrel or a 18.5 inch barrel.

I have a 28" ranger 870 that I use occasionally on birds. So this is more a fun gun or occasionally shooting rabbits or goats.

pros/cons? I'm leaning towards the 14.5 with a suppressor and eventually a red dot for maximum tacticool factor.

    Cheers

In the end he needs to suppress it to make the increased blast bearable. Does anyone know if SG suppressors tighten shot patterns? I imagine drastically reducing the pressure behind the shot cup before it exits helps.

short barrels are for clearing houses rather than wing shooting
they make shotguns extremely loud and unpleasant to use because the noise is closer to your ear or some rubbish.

Id go the shortest still if its for fun. they are very good for getting in and out of vehicles, even with the 18 inch barrel they are very portable good for possoms in trees sort of shooting, but yea you wont be tempted to take it opening weekend

got a mossy pump with 15inch barrel , red dot , ar style stock , polished receiver . Cool wee shotty . the kids love having a blast at the range with it , shooting down hand thrown clays . They prefer it to the full size version .
Does tend to spread the shot quite a bit wider though as you would expect - on the plus side its easier for the kids to hit the clays though

I had an 18 inch cylinder bored one on a rem 870, was fun for a while but it was hopeless for hitting things past 20 to 25 m. Found a 28inch multichoke barrel on trademe and the 18 hasnt been back on since.

My supressed 20g has a 43cm barrel. 56cm with suppressor. Good for rabbits out to 40 mtr or more. It is full choke though. Suppressor not as quiet as I hoped but a good short fun gun. Single shot though. Red dot sight is great but I haven't tried it on birds.
