the most open one you have..skeet....... but dont be afraid to pattern it....its really only good for 25-30 yards at best . we found for wallabies we were much better off with #BBs .
Did some testing with Remington 11-87 auto and 870 pump 28" interchoke shotguns, with Winchester 00 buckshot. Looking for max effective range for goats & pigs.
Improved Cylinder (1/4) was OK at 25 yd but Modified (1/2) held the pattern to 30 yd.
Full choke had noticeably heavier recoil and terrible blown patterns.
Since then I just use Modified for buckshot and pretty much all other lead shot sizes.
see if you can find some #7 buckshot....it has 27 .22 calibre balls....rather more usefull than 9x.32cal if smaller /goat sized animals are your target.
I think ive got no8s was going to use it on possums
In most shotguns cylinder or skeet give the best patterns with buck shot but try it. Generally the tighter chokes mash the pellets together and they fly out irregularly. I dont trust 00 past 25 metres on anything smaller than a little pig the holes in the pattern are so big that things slip through.
I can't tell ya how many buckshot rounds I have fired or seen fired.
Modified was our go to choke and I agree they the most open is better as it does not deform pellets.
It is hopeless beyond 25 yrds max.
Full coke can deform the pellets and they can go anywhere.
15-20yrd was ideal with a mod or open choke on deer out of a machine.
Best to test then go with the most consistent.

Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.
can it bulge the barrel if you go to tight or is that just slugs
@northdude if you had #5 birdshot or bigger on jackos you don't need buckshot. Spotlighting its fine and anywhere in the front half if they are doing a runner is pretty good too
I usually just use trap loads but sometimes go for buckshot for somethong a bit different havnt used it in this gun tho
size #2s are absolutely perfect for possums they dont hangup in trees either as it has enough oomph to chuck them out the back LOL.
im not really a shot gun shooter but own one but rarely use it how do the numbers work re shot
Cheers
