The 70s/80s versions were solid guns built by Nikko. There's not a lot to break on them so don't let that put you off, capable gun smiths will be able to whip up new firing pins if ever needed.
Having said all that, it'd need to be pretty stunning to be worth $1500 private sale (gun shops would be asking $2000-2200 for a gun that was worth $1500 private sale). For $1899 you could have a brand new Miroku mk70 Sporter from Reloaders.
I've seen them break an ejector, not so easy to "whip up"
